Eastloom · Hidden Northeast India

Water so clear,
boats fly.

This is the Umngot river in Meghalaya, one of twelve hidden places our local hosts will take you to. Small groups, village homestays, permits handled.

The boat's shadow
reaches the riverbed.

From November to April the Umngot runs so still and clear that you can count the pebbles under a moving boat. Come before 9 am, when the light falls straight down.

For you

Where should we start?

Pick what pulls you. The site rearranges itself around your picks and the places you open.

Your picks and trail stay in this browser. Clear them any time from Your trail.

Three places to start with

Hidden gems

Tap a place. Go there.

Twelve places our hosts grew up around. Open any of them for a fly-through, what you'll do there and how to get in. Most need a permit, a long drive or a few thousand steps, which is why they still feel like this.

Your trail

Every place you open joins the map.

Your trail across the eight states, drawn in the order you explored it. Tap any point to fly there.

Journeys

Small-group tours, led by locals.

Small groups, a host from the community you visit, and homestays over hotels. Every trip is priced for your dates and group size, so ask on WhatsApp and we'll send a quote.

Festival calendar

Time your trip to a celebration.

Every month somewhere in the Northeast is dancing, harvesting or praying. Some dates follow lunar or tribal calendars and shift a little each year; we confirm them when you book.

Months are approximate and confirmed each year with local organisers.

Pick what interests you. We write the message, you send it on WhatsApp, and we reply with a draft route and a price.

Permits, sorted

Arunachal, Nagaland, Mizoram and Manipur need an Inner Line Permit for Indian travellers; some border areas need a Protected Area Permit for everyone. We file them before you land.

Money stays local

We book family homestays, village guides and community-run campsites, so what you spend stays in the valley you visit.

Leave it as you found it

No plastic on treks, no drones near monasteries, and photos of people only when they say yes. Our hosts brief you on each community's customs.

The mark

Eight threads, one weave.

The Eastloom mark is woven from the cloth of all eight states, wrapped in Assam's gamosa, with the first sunrise at its centre. Tap any thread to hear its story.
